Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, is a hormonal imbalance that can lead to infertility. PCOS causes typically flares during a woman’s childbearing years and may cause irregular periods or damaged ovaries. The cause of PCOS is unknown, although there may be a hereditary element to the condition. PCOS can be difficult to diagnose but is often treatable with medication. Fertility can often be restored as well.
